SCOPE OF THE PROGRAMME

The Eurovent Certified Performance (ECP) programme scope for Chillers & Heat Pumps (LCP-HP) covers the standard air and water (brine) source chillers and hydronic heat pumps used for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration applications, which are equipped with any type of electrically-driven compressor. The intended use of the certified models can be residential, commercial, or industrial.

CERTIFY-ALL PRINCIPLE

For the LCP-HP programme, the certify-all rule applies as defined in the Certification Manual in force and in the Technical Certification Rules. Whenever a company participates in the LCP-HP programme, all liquid chilling packages and hydronic heat pumps (packaged or split), which are promoted by the applicant/participant to the endusers, specifiers, trading companies, and the contractors in the European market, (as defined in the Certification Manual in force), by means of paper or electronic catalogue, price list or in a selection tool within the scope of the programme shall be certified. This shall be done in accordance with the Technical Certification Rules (TCR) and includes all the models in modular ranges. 

Notes on certification:

  • The capacity limits of the certified units can be found in table 1 of the TCR.
  • The scope of the Certify-all Principle of the LCP-HP Programme can be found in table 2 of the TCR.
  • Other unit types and units with higher capacities than the limits given in the TCR can be certified as an option. 
  • Market-specific certification for India and/or Middle East is also available as an option for participants. 

PRODUCT TYPES

Chillers and heat pumps in the LCP-HP programme can used for heating, air conditioning and refrigeration, in buildings and processes. Units can be used in a wide range of residential, commercial, or industrial applications. The definitions for the product types covered by this program are as follows. 

Comfort Chiller: A unit designed to either cool, or cool and heat, liquid using an evaporator, a condenser, a refrigerant compressor, and appropriate controls. Leaving chilled water temperatures for cooling mode are greater than or equal to + 2 °C. Also known as a liquid chilling package. 

Heat pump: A unit designed to only heat liquid, using an evaporator, a condenser, a refrigerant compressor, and appropriate controls. Also known as a hydronic heat pump. 

Polyvalent unit: A unit with 4 pipes and capable of providing heating, cooling or simultaneous cooling and heating on two separate and independent water or brine loops using the vapour compression cycle. 

4-pipe Polyvalent unit: A polyvalent unit that can provide cooling and heating to two separate water loops. They can provide cooling only, heating only or simultaneously cooling and heating. One loop always provides cooling and the other heating. 

2+2-pipe Polyvalent unit: A polyvalent unit that can provide either cooling or heating to one loop and only heating to the second loop. These units are connected to two water loops: one loop is for seasonal comfort cooling and heating, the second loop is dedicated to produce hot sanitary water. When the unit provides cooling to the first loop, the heating provided to the second loop is the recovered energy resulting from unit’s cooling operation.

Process chiller: A chiller capable of cooling down and continuously maintaining the temperature of a liquid in order to provide cooling to a refrigerated appliance, or to a process cooling system. 

Units for IT cooling: A process chiller that can be used for IT cooling applications for CRAH (computer room air handler) units. These units are published on ITCU programme directory under ‘Certified process chillers for CRAH applications’ product type.

The heat source options of the units are as follows.  

Air-cooled or air to water: Means that heat is taken from the outside air and transferred to the indoor water-based system during the unit’s heating function. For cooling function, the unit extracts the heat from the indoor water-based system and transfers it to the outside air. 

Water-cooled or water to water: Means that heat is taken from the outdoor water loop and transferred to the indoor water-based system during the unit’s heating function. For cooling function, the unit extracts the heat from the indoor water-based system and transfers it to the outdoor water, which might be sent to a cooling tower/water loop system or a ground loop. 

Unit structure is split in two different categories: 

  • Packaged: Factory assembly of components of refrigeration system, fixed on a common mounting to form a discrete unit. 
  • Split: Factory assembly of components of refrigeration system, fixed on two mountings to form a discrete matched functional unit.

With the combinations of the main characteristics above, product types are defined. 

DEFINITIONS

While exploring our certified products you’ll come across a number of technical terms relating to certification. The below definitions help explain the search criteria in our certified product directory.

You should note that due to the large number of certified product types in the LCP-HP programme, performance can be certified against differing criteria and conditions. The conditions of certified performances are provided by using the initials of the heat sources (A-air and W-water) and by giving first the outdoor side and then the indoor side. Such as:

A35/W12-7 = Outdoor side air temperature 35 °C / Indoor side water inlet 12 °C and water outlet 7 °C.

W30-35/Wm19-m25 = Outdoor side water inlet 30 °C and water outlet 35 °C / Indoor side water inlet -19 °C and water outlet -25 °C.

If a unit has an integrated water pump, then available (serviceable) pressure performance filter should be used.

Product type categories in the LCP-HP programme therefore have some (but not all) of the following definitions in common.

Brand
Brand name of the manufacturer.

Range 
Listing of models with some common features.

Model
Model name.

LwO
Is the A-weighted sound power level, for non-ducted units in cooling. Measured in dB(A).

Lw duct
Is the A-weighted sound power level for ducted units in cooling. Measured in dB(A).

Pc
Is the total cooling capacity, measured in kW. It is the heat removed from the air under a set condition, over a period of time.

Pec
Is the electrical power input for cooling, measured in kW.

EER
Is the Energy Efficiency Ratio. It is the ratio of cooling output, to energy input. The higher the number, the higher the energy efficiency.

Dpc indoor
Is the indoor side water pressure drop in cooling mode. Measured in kPa.

Dpc outdoor
Is the outdoor side water pressure drop in cooling mode. Measured in kPa.

Apc indoor
Is the indoor side available pressure of the unit with pump in cooling mode. Measured in kPa.

Apc outdoor
Is the outdoor side available pressure of the unit with pump in cooling mode. Measured in kPa.

Ph
Is the heating capacity, measured in kW. It is the heat supplied to the air, under a set condition, over a period of time.

Peh
Is the net electrical power consumption for heating. Measured in kW.

COP
Is the Coefficient Of Performance. It is the ratio of heating output to energy input. The higher the number, the higher the energy efficiency.

Dph indoor
Is the indoor side water pressure drop in heating mode. Measured in kPa.

Dph outdoor
Is the outdoor side water pressure drop in heating mode. Measured in kPa.

Aph indoor
Is the indoor side available pressure of the unit with pump in heating mode. Measured in kPa.

Aph outdoor
Is the outdoor side available pressure of the unit with pump in heating mode. Measured in kPa.

Pdesignh
Is the design heating load of the building that the unit is suitable for, as declared by the manufacturer. Measured in kW.

SEER
Is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. The higher the number, the higher the maximum efficiency of the system in cooling mode, under typical seasonal operating conditions.

ηsc
Is the seasonal space cooling efficiency. The higher the percentage, the more efficient the system in cooling mode, under typical seasonal operating conditions.

SCOP
Is the Seasonal Coefficient Of Performance. The higher the number, the higher the maximum efficiency of the system in heating mode, under typical seasonal operating conditions.

ηsh
Is the seasonal space heating efficiency. The higher the percentage, the more efficient the system in heating mode, under typical seasonal operating conditions.

SEPR
Is the Seasonal Energy Performance Ratio. The higher the number, the more efficient the cooling unit, under typical seasonal operating conditions.

Psbc
Is the power consumption in standby mode in cooling. Measured in W.

Psbh
Is the power consumption in standby mode in heating. Measured in W.

Poffc
Is the power consumption in off mode, in cooling. Measured in W.

Poffh
Is the power consumption in off mode, in heating. Measured in W.

Ptoc
Is the power consumption in the thermostat-off mode, in cooling. Measured in W.

Ptoh
Is the power consumption of the thermostat-off mode, in heating. Measured in W.

Pckc
Is the power consumption of the crankcase heater in cooling. Measured in W.

Pckh
Is the power consumption of the crankcase heater in heating. Measured in W.

TER W45
Is the Total Efficiency Ratio of simultaneous cooling and heating, when the chilled water outlet is 7 °C and heated water outlet is 45 °C. The higher the number, the higher the efficiency of the system.

Refrigerant
Type of refrigerant.

Main Power Supply
Expressed as voltage (V) - phase - frequency (Hz).

Expansion valve type
Is the type of expansion valve e.g. electronic.

Control of pump speed
Presence and control type of the pump e.g. fixed, no pump.

Type of water regulation
Is the water regulation type, including:

  • Fixed water flow rate, variable outlet temperature. Expressed as FW/VO
  • Fixed water flow rate, fixed outlet temperature. Expressed as FW/FO
  • Variable water flow rate, variable outlet temperature. Expressed as VW/VO
  • Variable water flow rate, fixed outlet temperature. Expressed as VW/FO.

Reversibility on water side
A true or false result for if the unit can be reversed on the water side.

Outdoor heat exc. type
Is the outdoor heat exchanger type e.g. finned tube.

Indoor heat exc. type
Is the indoor heat exchanger type e.g. plate.

Outdoor heat exc. dimensions (W x L x H)
Is the dimensions of the outdoor heat exchanger. Expressed as width x length x height.

Indoor heat exc. dimensions (W x L x H)
Is the dimensions of the indoor heat exchanger. Expressed as width x length x height.

Motor type
Is the motor type of the compressor(s) e.g. AC, DC, BLDC (brushless DC motor) or VSD (variable speed drive).

Unit Capacity Control
Refers the ability of a unit to change its heating or cooling capacity by changing the volumetric flow rate of the refrigerant. The values are declared in accordance with EN 14825. Units are indicated as fixed if there is no change in volumetric flow rate, staged if the volumetric flow rate is changed or varied in series of not more than two steps, or variable if the volumetric flow rate is changed or varied in series of three or more steps.

Type
Is the type of compressor e.g. scroll.

Inverter
A true or false result for inverter technology.

Number
Is the number of compressors.

Software version
Version of software selection tool.

Software name
Name of software selection tool.

CERTIFIED CHARACTERISTICS

Chillers and reversible chillers:

The following performances at standard conditions shall be certified for chillers and reversible chillers:

  • Cooling capacity [kW]
  • Energy efficiency Ratio (EER) [-]
  • Water pressure difference (pressure drop or available static pressure) at evaporator in cooling [kPa]
  • Water pressure difference (pressure drop or available static pressure) at condenser in cooling for water-to-water units [kPa]
  • Heating capacity for reverse cycle units [kW]
  • Coefficient of Performance (COP) for reverse cycle units [-]
  • Water pressure difference (pressure drop or available static pressure) at evaporator in heating for reverse cycle water-to-water units [kPa]
  • Water pressure difference (pressure drop or available static pressure) at condenser in heating for reverse cycle chillers [kPa]
  • A-weighted sound power level for Air Cooled Units in cooling mode [dB(A)].

All ratings refer to a fouling factor equal to zero.

For relevant units :

  • Total Efficiency Ratio (TER) [-] for 4-pipe units                                            
  • Seasonal Efficiency in Cooling (SEER & ηsc) [-] for comfort chillers           
  • Seasonal Energy performance ratio (SEPR) [-] for process chillers.            
  • Capacity at Pdesignh [kW]
  • Seasonal Efficiency (SCOP & ηs) [-]
  • A-weighted sound power level for Air Cooled Units in heating mode as required by the Commission Regulation EU 811/2013 and 813/2013 [dB(A)].

Supplementary performances can be certified as an option:

  • Psb, LRcontmin and CcpLRcontmin in cooling and heating
  • ISEER according to Indian Standard                                                            
  • T3 (46°C) & Operability at 52°C according to Middle East Standards.         

Heat Pumps (Heating only):

The following performances at standard conditions shall be certified for heating-only Heat Pumps:

  • Heating capacity [kW]
  • Coefficient of Performance (COP) for the same conditions of the heating capacity [-]
  • Water pressure drop at evaporator in heating mode for water-to-water units [kPa]
  • Water pressure drop at condenser in heating mode [kPa].

For relevant units:

  • Capacity at Pdesignh [kW]
  • Seasonal Efficiency (SCOP & ηs) [-]
  • A-weighted sound power level for Air Cooled Units in heating mode as required by the Commission Regulation EU 811/2013 and 813/2013 [dB(A)].

All ratings refer to a fouling factor equal to zero.

Supplementary performances can be certified as an option:

  • Psb, LRcontmin and CcpLRcontmin in heating.

The published literature or computer programme for all the products shall include all the certified performances.

💡 Good to know

When using the Advanced Search Criteria function for all chiller and heat pump units in the programme, you can search (at the condition stated) via: A-weighted sound power level of non-ducted unit, main power supply, unit capacity control, compressor type and inverter. Most products can also be searched via indoor side pressure drop, indoor side available pressure of the unit with pump, refrigerant, cooling capacity and energy efficiency ratio.

Different product types can search via additional criteria such as ηsc for air conditioning, ηsc for cooling floor application, coefficient of performance (COP), ηsh for low temperature heating application for average climates, ηsh for medium temperature heating application for average climates, external static pressure on duct outlet, outdoor side water pressure drop, outdoor side available pressure of the unit with pump, heating capacity, cooling capacity during simultaneous cooling and heating, heating capacity during simultaneous cooling and heating, TER - Total efficiency ratio of simultaneous cooling and heating, SEPR at either high, medium or low temperature process chiller application.

 

⚠️ ABOUT THE INTERPRETATION OF ECODESIGN REGULATION (EU) 2016/2281

After the consultations done with TC 113/WG 7, who is in charge of EN 14825 standard, it has been clarified that F(2) factor is only applied to the calculation of 'seasonal space cooling efficiency’ (ηs,c) of the ground coupled water-to-water and brine-to-water units. Correspondingly, all ηs,c values of concerned units have been corrected in the ‘Certified Product Directory’. The further information related to this modification can be found in the article of Eurovent Association, titled as Eurovent 6/17 - 2020: Ecodesign Regulation (EU) 2016/2281.
