Discrepancies in claimed and expected product performance was a key theme for Eurovent Certification as it was joined by Eurovent Association, Eurovent Market Intelligence and ProdBIM at Chillventa 2024. Known as the world’s leading exhibition for refrigeration technology, Chillventa returned from 8th-10th October at the NürnbergMesse, Nürnberg, Germany. The team could be found in hall 7, stand 707, and also participated in a number of events, including presentations on heat exchangers, cooling towers and a press conference to officially launch the latest white paper, “Broken trust: Energy efficiency and the refrigeration industry.”
Chillventa is known worldwide for its comprehensive overview of refrigeration and insulation technologies, C&I and automation, air conditioning, ventilation and heat pumps. With 1010 exhibitors from 49 countries and 32,796 trade visitors, the numbers showed Chillventa was back to pre-pandemic levels, with the industry ready to tackle the challenges ahead.
This was all good news for the team, where over on the stand the white paper launch loomed large, with visitors asked if they were playing ‘refrigeration roulette’ with the actual performance of the products they specify and install. But it wasn’t all about certification, with Chillventa bringing together the expertise of the full Eurovent family. It provided the perfect platform to raise awareness to a targeted refrigeration audience of association membership, market statistics and reports via Eurovent Market Intelligence and the BIM data solutions available via ProdBIM.
Keen as ever to tackle hard hitting industry issues, Eurovent Certification was involved in two presentations. On 8th October at 4pm in hall 8, delegates assembled to listen to Tim Kroeger, Sales Manager, present, “Heat exchanger technology advancement and market status: A review.” In a packed-out session that aimed to redefine delegate’s approaches to HVAC-R specification, Tim covered:
Delegates left with the knowledge to make informed, forward-thinking product decisions.
On 9th October at 2.20pm in hall 8, Marius Janikulla, Area Sales Manager Central Germany and Poland at BAC, presented, “Eurovent Certified equipment: A solid foundation for engineers and a MUST for sustainable cooling tower solutions.” Marius discussed the benefits of Eurovent certified cooling towers. He covered the Eurovent Certification process, including the technical data review, thermal testing, factory audits, and market surveillance. He concluded with a case study demonstrating the benefits of Eurovent certified open and closed-circuit cooling towers.

On 9th October, the international trade press convened for a press conference launching Eurovent Certification’s newest white paper, “Broken trust: Energy efficiency and the refrigeration industry.” The white paper explores the problem of product underperformance and highlights the importance of reliable data and the impact of discrepancies for industry players.
First up, Eurovent Certification’s President, Sylvain Courtey, welcomed everyone in the room, before handing over to Tim Kroeger to present the reasons behind writing the white paper. A key part of the presentation centred on the research undertaken by Eurovent Certification revealing a potential 31% gap between declared and expected performance, and the impact of the findings on the industry. Questions were then taken by a panel of Eurovent Certification experts including Head of Refrigeration Department, Hanan Hilal and Heat Exchanger Programme Manager, Japhet Habimana.
Thank you to everyone who attended, asked questions and made the press conference a success.
Each day between 9:30am -11:30am Chillventa played host to professionally guided tours with KK DIE KÄLTE + Klimatechnik. The route brought delegates to the Eurovent Certification stand for an informal presentation by Tim Kroeger, on the results of the white paper. The tours proved popular, especially when delivered by a Bona fide warrior!
As ever, Chillventa offered the full Eurovent family the opportunity to catch up certified and uncertified manufacturers, association members, specifiers and other industry professionals. It’s a vital event for promoting the benefits of certification, discussing industry issues with Eurovent Association, the importance of statistical data via Eurovent Market Intelligence and showcasing the range of data solutions available through ProdBIM. The Eurovent Market Intelligence team were particularly pleased to have the opportunity to discuss their data collections with the numerous condensing unit and CO2 rack manufacturers in attendance. The data from these products is becoming increasingly important for the refrigeration industry.
Thank you to the Chillventa organisers, those who attended our presentations, the trade press for their participation in our press conference and to everyone else who dropped by the stand and helped make 2024 a fabulous show. We will be back in 2026!
