On 28th June at 9.30am, an audience of operators, planners and decision makers in supermarket and retail refrigeration systems, gathered for the inaugural ‘Colloquium on Energy-Efficient Refrigeration Systems for Supermarkets & Shopping Centres’ conference, at the Maritim Hotel, Darmstadt, Germany. The one-day event hosted by Eurovent Certita Certification (ECC) and COOLPLAN, welcomed a number of top quality speakers including Ceslovas Kizlauskas and Osama Aljolani from Kelvion Germany GmbH. Their informative presentation entitled ‘Heat exchangers for refrigeration and heat pump technology,’ proved popular with the audience. In this interview we get to talk to both Ceslovas and Osama about the experience.
ECC: Can you give a brief overview of your presentation?
Ceslovas: The presentation was split into two parts. The first part, presented by myself, covered our participation in Eurovent certification programmes, what you have to do, the certification process and the testing involved. The second part was presented by Osama, who covered some of the units produced by Kelvion, focussing on our CO2 range.
ECC: Readers of this interview will be able to download ‘Heat exchangers for refrigeration and heat pump technology,’ at the end of this article. What were the key takeaways from the presentation?
Ceslovas: That we are offering true value for the customer. It’s a pity for those companies who do not participate in Eurovent certification, and who miss out on the value of certification.
Osama: In addition, in response to the current strength of the heat pump market, the presentation highlights how we are continually improving our products. It was also valuable to communicate that we can provide a range of CO2 heat pumps.
ECC: Moving onto the event itself, what did you think about the format of the colloquium?
Ceslovas: It was a fine event, full of interesting people.
Osama: The colloquium was a successful, well organised event, where we got the opportunity to meet new experts who are working in the field of refrigeration technology. It was also nice to meet our contacts at Eurovent Certita Certification in person.
ECC: Why did you decide to speak at the event?
Ceslovas: It was a good opportunity to support Eurovent and to support our market share.
Osama: Not only was it my first opportunity to give a presentation direct to customers, but was also my first presentation in German to a German audience. It was very good for me to give my first presentation at this type of event!
ECC: Why are these events important?
Ceslovas: Events like the Colloquium give us contact with the customer, and the chance to present. We usually talk to planners, so do not often get to present to end users.
Osama: It would definitely be of interest to increase the number of users present at the next Colloquium.
ECC: Anything else you wish to add?
Ceslovas: It was the perfect event. The evening before was also important as it gave the opportunity to meet our ECC contacts face-to-face, especially those we deal with in the Eurovent Certified Performance Heat Exchanger programme. This was especially important after the Covid years, where meetings were virtual and we couldn’t meet personally. Just one suggestion to improve the colloquium would be to video the presentations at the next event.
Osama: There was a good level of organisation and coordination. The technical programme was very good.
ECC: Thank you both for your time today and for such an excellent presentation at the Colloquium on Energy-Efficient Refrigeration Systems for Supermarkets & Shopping Centres.
