The Eurovent Certified Performance (ECP) programme scope for Fan Coil Units (FCU) covers fan coil units using chilled water, or chilled water and hot water, for which it is possible to select at least three different speeds on the unit (variable speed units are included). The programme is divided into two sub-programmes:
All the units are tested with a power supply of 230V, and a standard frequency of 50Hz (60Hz possible upon request).
Heating only units are not covered by the programme scope. Units not meeting the criteria of the sub-programs, as set out in the Technical Certification Rules, are also excluded.
Whenever a company participates in the programme for fan coils, all applicable products that are promoted by the applicant/participant, are certified. This is done in accordance with the Technical Certification Rules and includes all models in modular ranges, except for District cooling units and 60Hz units, for which the declaration to certification remains optional. For the FCU programme, the certify-all requirement is applicable to the European market as identified by the Certification Manual.
Fan coil units are used for thermal comfort for buildings. They are terminal air conditioning units that provide cooling only, or heating and cooling, directly to a room or area. They are used in a wide range of applications, from office blocks to hotels, restaurants to retail. They can also be used with a variety of HVAC systems.
A FCU will typically consist of one or more heat exchangers, one or more fans with electric motors, an appropriate enclosure, condensed water collecting facilities (for cooling), air filter and a discharge plenum for ductwork (in ducted systems).
In simple terms, the system uses a fan to draw fresh air from a separate ventilation system, or recirculated air from the room, into the FCU. Air first passes through a filter, then is drawn over the heat exchanger coil where heat transfer takes place. The FCU blows the conditioned air into the room. In cooling mode the FCU will be fed from a chilled water loop from a chiller system. In heating mode the FCU will be fed from a hot water loop from either a boiler or heat pump system.
In the FCU Programme, ducted units are chassis style, concealed within the building structure, with ducting appropriately connected to the inlet and/or outlet of the unit. Four types of fan coils are certified under the ducted sub-programme. You’ll find them under the following product types:
Ducted, 2 pipes, cooling
A ducted, two-pipe system, offering cooling only.
Ducted, 2 pipes, district cooling
A ducted, two-pipe system, offering cooling only in district cooling applications.
Ducted, 2 pipes, cooling and heating
A ducted, two-pipe system, offering cooling or heating.
Ducted, 4 pipes, cooling and heating
A ducted, four-pipe system, offering simultaneous cooling and heating.
Under the FCU Programme, non-ducted units can be cabinet style, within a room, for free air delivery, or of the chassis style, concealed within the building structure with minimal ducting appropriately connected to the inlet and/or outlet of the unit. Four types of fan coils are certified under the non-ducted sub-programme. You’ll find them under the following product types:
Non-ducted, 2 pipes, cooling
A non-ducted, two-pipe system, offering cooling only.
Non-ducted, 2 pipes, district cooling
A non-ducted, two-pipe system, offering cooling only in district cooling applications.
Non-ducted, 2 pipes, cooling and heating
A non-ducted, two-pipe system, offering cooling or heating.
Non-ducted, 4 pipes, cooling and heating
A non-ducted, four-pipe system, offering simultaneous cooling and heating.
While exploring our certified products you’ll come across a number of technical terms relating to certification. The below definitions help explain the search criteria in our certified product directory.
Certified product types in the FCU programme have most of the following search criteria in common. Some will vary dependent on cooling only or heating and cooling functionality.
