The eighth Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) Annual Conference and the coveted BESA Awards took place on the 17th October at The Brewery London, UK. Keen to raise certification’s profile to a key audience, Eurovent Certification exhibited at the daytime conference and helped celebrate product innovation by sponsoring the “New product or technology,” category at the evening awards. The Eurovent Certification team was joined by Eurovent Association for both events.
The conference had a varied technical programme across four key themes, known as the "four Rs" - Roles, Responsibilities, Risks, and Rewards - highlighting growing legislative pressures and contractual risks, while also addressing new business opportunities in the UK. Key discussions covered technical topics such as the impact of the Grenfell Tower fire and the Building Safety Act, net-zero initiatives, heat pump technology, indoor air quality (IAQ), heat networks, the use of AI in the construction sector, commissioning best practice, offsite fabrication, water efficiency, and skills development and training.
The topic of accurate manufacturer data and reliable product testing was kicked off by keynote speaker Pete Apps, in his dissection of the causes of the Grenfell Tower fire. Data accuracy and energy efficiency were strands present throughout a number of the presentations, as discussions leaned into net zero, sustainable systems, IAQ and IA’s role in the buildings of tomorrow.
The various breakout sessions in the exhibition area allowed for a substantial amount of networking time and for the team to discuss the value of certification with delegates. The conference proved an ideal opportunity to connect with specifiers, installers, end users, government organisations, manufacturers, journalists and leading industry figures.
As the conference came to a close with a recap of the day’s events, attentions turned to the BESA’s Industry Awards. Recognising excellence in building engineering services, the awards highlighted individuals and businesses for outstanding projects, products and initiatives.
Eurovent Certification proudly sponsored the “New Product or Technology Award.” UK Partnership Manager, Ian Butler, took to the stage with host, comedian Tom Ward, to present the prize. As the finalist waited nervously, the winner was announced as Pathogen Reduction Solutions, by Farmwood M&E Services. Our congratulations go to the Farmwood M&E Services team and all the finalists, including:
The awards offered a valuable opportunity to network with certified manufacturers, including Evapco and Aermec UK, professional bodies and associations, such as BESA and CIBSE, as well as the wider industry organisations such as the Energy Technology List (ETL).
Our thanks go to BESA for organising the event, all of those who came to chat at the Eurovent Certification stand.
