Systemair blog puts certification under the spotlight
Certified manufacturer Systemair has released a blog on their website focusing in on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and Eurovent Hygienic Air Handling Unit certification. Within the blog, Sylvain Courtey, President of Eurovent Certita Certification (ECC), discusses what makes Eurovent Hygienic Air Handling Unit certification stand out from other standards, and why hygienic features should be a standard offering for Air Handling Units (AHUs) in all types of applications.
First explaining the background to the certification scheme as an optional extra for manufacturers that have already have their performance certified under Eurovent’s Air Handling Unit programme, Sylvain then explores the challenges of producing such a specific programme for the hygienic aspect, especially as certification is based on Standards such as VDI 6022-1 and DIN 1946-4 that have some ambiguity in their application. With certified products having to reach very specific criteria, the programme had to define what it truly means to be hygienic.
Sylvain then goes on to explore how the programme paves the way for making clean, healthy air more accessible across all project types, arguing that all AHUs should be hygienic. The certification introduces an easy-to-understand 1-3 star rating system, with Level 1 offering superior IAQ for everyday applications such as offices and education, Level 2 raising IAQ further for hospital and healthcare applications, and Level 3 for the most demanding hygienic applications, such as food processes, pharmaceutical, white rooms, laboratories etc.
Finally the blog covers what sets apart the Eurovent Hygienic AHU certification programme and how ECC is protecting use of the mark to benefit certified manufacturers. Sylvain’s closing comments discuss wider industry issues, such as Eurovent Association’s impact on HVAC standards and the market shift in priorities around energy efficiency and indoor air quality.
